Great Outdoors
The great outdoors doesn't get much better than in Montcalm County. You're invited to discover the many excellent family-oriented recreation adventures to be found - hiking, biking, jogging, exploring, swimming, and getting close to nature.
There's unlimited scenery, many lakes and rivers to test the most avid fisherman, and an extensive parks system. The Montcalm County Parks and Recreation Commission invites you to come and explore Montcalm's beautiful county parks.
Reservations -
Ford Lincoln Park reservations for 2023 will begin Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 8 am, and day parks beginning Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 8 am Please call the parks reservation line at 989-831-3599.
Park Reservation can be paid for using the online payment website.
All reservations must be confirmed through the Controller's office prior to making payments.
County Owned Parks
Krampe Park 14555 W. Church Road, Howard City, MI 49329
Located south of Amble on Church Road, between Masters Rd. and Amble Rd. Krampe Park covers prime recreation land with large shade trees and has frontage on beautiful Winfield Lake. Recreation facilities and amenities include a large covered pavilion that can hold up to 400 people, picnic tables, grills, playground equipment, and a boat launch. The park is open to the public. When the pavilion area is not reserved, they are available for use by the general public on a first-come, first-serve basis.
McCarthy Park 592 S. Greenville Road, Greenville MI 48838
Located on M-91 north of Greenville between Turk Lake and Langston. The park covers 26 acres and features an abundance of shade trees and woodland nature trails boarding the picturesque Flat River on the West. McCarthy Park has 3 covered pavilions available for reservations. The park is open to the public and when pavilions are not reserved, they are available for use by the general public on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Large pavilion (56' x 64') can hold seating from 200-400 people. This pavilion is great for bigger events such as wedding receptions, family reunions, music in the park events, etc. It is equipped with 40- 8 foot picnic tables, grills, electricity for appliances, and lighting so that your events can run into the evening. In 2023, we expect to have running water and septic in our newly renovated restrooms facility.
The Northern small pavilion (28' x 32') is equipped with 12- 8 foot picnic tables and is located close to the playground area for children. This would be a great place for birthday parties.
The Southern small pavilion (28' x 32') is equipped with 12- 8 foot picnic tables and is located closer to the restroom facilities.
Schmeid Park 5603 Caroline Drive, Lakeview MI 48850
Located at the intersection of Robin Drive and Caroline Drive, on the north side of Towline Lake. The park covers 4 acres and is located on a hill overlooking the lake. It offers varied recreation areas with large shade trees. Amenities include a basketball court, picnic tables and grills, playground equipment, and boat launch. The park is open to the public and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We currently do not accept reservations.
Carl Paepke Flat River Nature Park
Located on South Johnson Road, 1/2 mile south of Sidney Road in Gowen, MI. This nature park offers quite, pristine, and fenced nature area. The park holds two walking trails, one measuring 0.8 miles, and the other 1.8 miles long. It has 4,200 feet of frontage on the beautiful Flat River, not far from McCarthy Park. The park is open to the public and currently does not have rental fees.
Camp Ford Lincoln 6551 Schmeid Road, Lakeview MI 48850
Located East of Lakeview on the north end of Towline Lake, it is the county's only overnight park. Situated on 3 acres, Camp For Lincoln offers facilities for multiple days of lodging and/or outings. There are four rustic bunk houses that sleep up to 38 people comfortably (4 bunk beds per cabin, 26 are twin and 6 are full on the bottom bunk only) and one that is handicap accessible. There is a large, well equipped kitchen and heated dining hall with hot showers and restrooms. A covered pavilion also graces the camp, with picnic tables, grills, a place to play volleyball and basket ball, a swing set, a boat dock for fishing, and swimming at your own risk. Limited RV camping is allowed. There are four 50 amp pedestals available, no water hookups or waste facilities. This facility is available by reservation only.
It is an excellent place for special events such as company picnics, family reunions, wedding parties, church camps, company workshops, seminars, youth groups, and similar events.
