WHEN IS A PERMIT REQUIRED
A building permit is required for the following types of work:
- New construction, structural alterations, and changes in use or occupancy
- Swimming pools (above or below ground) that are: 24 inches or more in depth, or have a surface area of 250 square feet or more
- Decks, floor areas, or enclosures surrounding a pool
- Garages, carports, storage sheds, and yard buildings, except: Residential accessory structures under 200 square feet. Entryway additions to existing doors where no horizontal dimension exceeds 7 feet
- Decks, porches, or floor surfaces elevated 30 inches or more above grade
- Mobile home installations and replacements
- Roof systems
- Window replacements only when: The opening is enlarged, or an egress window is modified
WHEN IS A PERMIT NOT REQUIRED
- Building permits are not required for residing of a structure.
- Re-roofing that involves no structural repairs
